Certain pathologies such as obesity or cancer increase the risk of developing a severe form of Covid-19.
- Since the start of the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 in France, 39,798,409 people have received at least one injection (i.e. 59% of the total population) and 33,152,259 people now have a complete vaccination schedule (i.e. 49, 2% of the total population).
- As of July 24, 2021, nearly 69,515,000 injections have been performed.
More than 5 million people at risk of serious or even fatal forms remain to be vaccinated against Covid-19, according to Health Insurance. “There are 5 million people who are at risk when the epidemic starts again”, lamented Dominique Martin, national medical adviser of the National Health Insurance Fund during a press briefing.
One million people over the age of 75 have not had an injection
In mid-July, 78.2% of people on dialysis had completed their vaccination cycle (+9.4 points between May 23 and July 11). Ditto for 70.4% of people with Down syndrome (+20.9 points), for 74.1% of patients suffering from active cancers (+26.8 points), for 62.7% of French people with respiratory diseases ( +31.8 points) and for 69.7% of diabetics (+31.8 points). More generally, on these populations, “we gained 14 points for the first injection and 31 points for completely completed vaccinations”, commented Dominique Martin.
Regarding age, health insurance considers “that another one million people over the age of 75 have not had an injection”. 86.15% of French seniors received their first injection, and 81.4% benefit from a complete vaccination schedule. Remember that the older the age, the greater the risk of dying from Covid-19.
How to vaccinate more people at risk?
To reach as many people at risk as possible, treating physicians have had the possibility since July 14 “to request the list of their unvaccinated patients”, recalled the director of Health Insurance, Thomas Fatôme.
Pharmacists can also distribute flyers and educational kits to people suffering from obesity and diabetes. In addition, the health insurance medical service will soon contact the 20,000 people over 16 without a doctor and with high-risk pathologies.
