He thus specified that there will be “ management of hormonal contraception, biological assessment, prescription consultation and all care related to this contraception “. A measure which represents for the State, a cost of 21 million euros.
Until now, contraceptive pills and IUDs were already free in France for all underage girls and covered 100% by Medicare. In fact, since 2012, free contraception has existed for minors aged 15 to 18, and since 2020, for those under 20.
Contraception decline in a number of young women
To justify this new free measure, the Minister of Health explained that with the authorities of scientists, they found that there is today ” a decline in contraception in a certain number of young women, and the first reason is the withdrawal for financial reasons “. To which he added: “ It is unbearable that women cannot protect themselves, cannot have contraception, if they obviously choose to do so, because it costs them too much in their budget “.
