According to a study by the Institute for Research and Documentation in Health Economics (Irdes), collective redundancies have a significant impact on the mental health of employees who remain in the company.
Consumption of psychotropic drugs on the rise
The results of the study reveal how collective redundancies significantly affect the mental health of employees who remain in the company. The study, published at the end of May, reportsconsumption of psychotropic drugs up 41% after the departure of colleagues.
Participants aged 20 to 65 took part in this study, which was conducted in the private sector between 2010 and 2013. The researchers measured the consumption of antidepressant drugs, anxiolytics and other hypnotic drugs prescribed by a doctor before and after a wave of layoffs. The study also shows that the less advantaged socio-economically populations are more affected by mental health disorders.
Further job cuts
Conforama announced on July 1, 1,900 job cuts. General Electric will have to part with a thousand people and the Caisse des Dépôts announced 200 departures in conventional rupture. Whatever the sector, private or public, restructuring can affect employees.
In this difficult context, professional relations wither and a lack of trust sets in. Nevertheless, maintaining communication with colleagues and managers is essential. To pass this course in a period of uncertainty, it is important to monitor collective prevention actions for psychosocial risks implemented, whatever their form: medical or psychological follow-up, individual interview or reorganization of work according to the capacities and resources of the employees.
