Badly made toilets, strong odors of urine … A nursing home in the Rhône was urgently closed following complaints from families and an inspection by the regional health agency.
“It makes me very, very angry,” said Michèle Delaunay, the minister responsible for the elderly, who this morning mentioned on RTL the situation of the establishment for dependent elderly people (Ehpad) of Bessenay in the Rhône department. Indeed, following numerous complaints from families, the prefecture of the department had to temporarily close this Ehpad, “Le Calme de l’Etang”, which accommodates 64 people.
According to the minister, it is “a gear, a spiral” of dysfunctions. “Very probably insufficient management which leads to poor management of unqualified teams and repeated failures, with repeated complaints from families about care, records that are not kept up to date, poorly made toilets, strong smell of urine in the establishment, ”enumerated the Minister for the Elderly.
According to a press release from the Prefecture, this is an exceptional measure, taken as a matter of urgency, taking into account the “serious risk to the health, safety and moral or physical well-being of the people lodged” as a result of ” an inspection carried out at the end of August by the Regional Health Agency (ARS). In addition, the Rhône Department asks the manager of this Ehpad, the Domus Vi group, to bring as soon as possible all the “essential corrective measures, again guaranteeing satisfactory operating conditions and which would allow reopening”. In the meantime, the 64 residents of the establishment will be redirected to other structures.
