Zimbabwe is one of the countries most affected by the AIDS virus with 13.5% of the population affected. A prevention program aimed at encouragingcondom use has just been launched by the Minister of Health, David Parirenyatwa. However, during a conference in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, the latter highlighted a major problem: “We import condoms from China and many men complain that they are too small”.
Locally making suitable condoms
Even if this information would make more than one smile, it is far from trivial. Indeed, the majority of condoms found in Zimbabwe come from China, and there are very few local producers. The Minister of Health therefore strongly encouraged manufacturers to manufacture them on the spot: “We need to have our own condoms”.
These words did not go unnoticed as Zao Chuan, director of Beijing Daxiang Company, one of the manufacturers of Chinese condoms, told the South China Morning Post: “We have started to do a survey in order to better understand the problems they encounter with our products. I can already tell you that we will soon be offering condoms in different sizes to the Zimbabwean market ”.
