France continues to face an epidemic of chickenpox, which rages “strongly” in six regions and “moderately” in five others.
The chickenpox epidemic is far from over. In his last bulletin, the Sentinelles network observed that, for the period from May 4 to 10, the disease was still present in metropolitan France.
In several regions, the virus therefore continues to spread, while the flu epidemic is eclipsed, with only 15 cases per 100,000 inhabitants recorded during the same period.
Eleven regions concerned
Last week, the incidence rate of chickenpox seen in medical consultation was estimated at 36 cases per 100,000 population. Eleven regions are mainly affected by the epidemic.
Among them, six concentrate a “strong activity”. First in the lead, Provence-Alpes-Côte-D’azur, records the largest number of recorded cases (109). Followed by the Rhône-Alpes region, Corsica, Burgundy, Center and Pays-de-la-Loire.
The regions of Haute-Normandie, Ile-de-France, Languedoc-Roussillon, Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Champagne-Ardenne, for their part, record “moderate” activity, with an average of 29 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The Sentinelles network therefore estimates that 23,230 people have been infected with chickenpox in metropolitan France. The disease, particularly contagious, is recognized by a rash that begins suddenly with a moderate fever (37.5 ° C – 38 ° C). Often benign, it can however cause complications in pregnant women, children and immunocompromised people.
