According to the latest figures from the Sentinelles network, France is facing an epidemic of chickenpox, which is raging “strongly” in 16 regions and “moderately” in three others.

The disease, particularly contagious, is recognized by a rash that begins suddenly with a moderate fever (37.5 ° C – 38 ° C). Often benign, it can however cause complications in pregnant women, children and immunocompromised people.
Strong activity in 16 regions
Last week, the incidence rate of cases of chickenpox seen in general medicine consultation was estimated at 48 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The sixteen regions, mainly affected by the epidemic, concentrate a “strong” activity.
First in the lead: Languedoc-Roussillon, which records the greatest number of cases. Followed by Limousin, Franche-Comté, Pays-de-la-Loire, Picardy, Alsace, Auvergne, Ile-de-France, Nord-Pas-de-Calais , Upper Normandy, Lower Normandy, Brittany and the Center.
The Rhône-Alpes, Lorraine and Corsica regions record “moderate” activity, with around 25 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. In total, still according to the Sentinels network, nearly 31,000 people have been infected with chickenpox in metropolitan France.
Measles in Alsace
The Alsace Regional Health Agency (ARS) alerted, via a communicated, on an epidemic risk of measles. Thirty-seven cases have been identified, according to the ARS, in particular in several schools in the sectors of Colmar, Logelbach and Ribeauvillé. One of the schools concerned had recently organized a school trip to Berlin, where a measles epidemic has been raging for several weeks. After contracting the disease, an 18-month-old baby died last February.
