This way tasty stays healthy
Enjoy the summer on the terrace with cool drinks. A rose, a beer or perhaps an iced tea. But know what you drink. Then it will be a beautiful and healthy summer.
Thirst is a useful alarm signal from the body. Alarm signal? Of course. Because a feeling of thirst actually comes too late, when the body craves moisture. It is better to drink before you get thirsty. A person loses about two liters of fluid daily through perspiration, breathing, urine and faeces. And that must be continuously supplemented.
Calorie Drinks
Every drink has its pros and cons. Except water. That is and remains the best thirst quencher, it has been that way since prehistoric times. But yes, many people find water boring. They prefer soft drinks, fruit juices, dairy, alcoholic drinks, coffee and tea. Most of these drinks provide us with calories.
Scientists think that these ‘liquid’ calories promote obesity because you unknowingly clock in a lot of calories without them providing satiety. Especially with soft drinks (on average 95 kcal and 5 sugar cubes per highball glass) or alcohol (soon 100 kcal per glass) it adds up nicely. Alcohol also removes water from the body and is therefore not suitable for quenching thirst.
teeth
And then there is the effect on the teeth. Not only sugar, also acid is an enemy. The tooth enamel in particular is the victim of this. Diet soft drinks and even sparkling spring water also contain acid and are therefore harmful to the teeth.
Do!
Drink at least one glass of water after each alcoholic drink. This is also the best way to prevent a hangover. Or do like our eastern neighbours, who drink half water, half wine and call it Schörle.
don’t!
Do not brush your teeth immediately after a glass of fruit juice or soda. The tooth enamel needs time to recover from the acid attack. First rinse with water or wait half an hour.
Make your own iced tea
Brew a large pot of fragrant tea. Let it cool and add ice cubes, lemon juice and sugar to taste. Add fresh mint leaves and serve with a slice of lemon.
Below is an overview of the calories in drinks. Also barbecue and ice can be real calorie bombs.
