The latest survey by the UFC-Que Choisir association is particularly worrying. According to this work, many lip balms contain toxic substances.
Toxic lip balms?
To avoid having chapped lips, we have the reflex to buy a lip balm in the winter. But perhaps we should be more careful about the composition of these products. In any case, this is what the UFC-Que Choisir suggests in a study that it has just published. According to this work, very many lip balms would contain dangerous substances. To reach this conclusion, the association analyzed the composition of 21 balms of different brands.
She was thus able to observe that 10 references contained potentially carcinogenic mineral oils if ingested, and endocrine disruptors. ” We found residues, one is carcinogenic, the other seems to be toxic », Explained Fabienne Maleysson, who works at UFC-Que Choisir, on France Info. ” However, they accumulate in the liver and lymph nodes And that can be dangerous.
The best care is also the cheapest
Among the offending brands, we find names above all suspicion : Macadamia balm from Yves Rocher, Trésors de miel from Garnier Ultra Doux, Original classiccare from Labello, Classic moisturizing lip balm from Carmex, Nultric from LaRoche Posay, Homéostick from Boiron, Cold cream from Avène , the Nutrition du petit Marseillais, the Aptonia moisturizing lip stick and the Uriage moisturizing lip stick.
Some of these brands do indeed have an excellent reputation. Once again, the consumer feels that he has been deceived. But the most surprising is yet to come: the best lip balm on the market, the one that would pose no problem, would be the Cien brand balm, sold at Lidl for the modest sum of 75 cents. Two other products stand out: Caudalie Lip Care and Melvita Nourishing Lip Stick.
