An American company has developed cannabis-based vaginal suppositories that aim to relieve painful periods.
Multiple uses of therapeutic cannabis. In the United States, a company markets vaginal suppositories made from marijuana, reports the site 20minutes. Composed of cocoa butter, cannabidiol and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive component of cannabis, they aim to relieve painful periods.
Muscle relaxation, analgesic action
The suppository works in 15 to 30 minutes locally, no need to hope for any psychoative effect – unless perhaps ingesting it, but we do not recommend it. Like a sanitary tampon, the device is inserted into the vagina for an action “at the source”. The aim is to use the muscle relaxation and analgesic properties of cannabis.
If the press echoed enthusiastic reactions among users, it should nevertheless be noted that no clinical trial has been carried out on the device, which the FDA (American drug agency) has not approved. The effectiveness has not been scientifically proven.
In addition, a second point could slow down the enthusiasm of those who would like to acquire this analgesic treatment: its high price. A box of four Foria Relief suppositories costs 44 dollars (40 euros)
However, through this new approach, manufacturers believe that this product could relieve ailments resistant to conventional treatments such as ibuprofen. It could thus represent a hope for women suffering from endometriosis.
