The National Cancer Institute is launching an online test this Tuesday to assess, in 3 minutes, the risk factors for the disease. Indeed, 40% of cancers could be avoided.
Three minutes. This is the time it takes to answer the questionnaire launched this Tuesday the National Cancer Institute (INCa) on his site, to assess risk factors for the disease. “When we think of cancer, we often talk about fate, age, hereditary risks or the environment.
But in reality, 40% of cancers are linked to our lifestyles and could therefore be avoided, ”explains the Institute. This information campaign, mainly digital, therefore aims to “clarify the hierarchy of the various cancer risk factors”.
Twelve questions, three minutes
Presented in the form of a questionnaire, the fun test focuses on tobacco and alcohol consumption, eating habits, physical activity, exposure to the sun, age, weight, but also to the risks related to the professional environment. It allows everyone to assess the risk factors to which they are exposed, through their lifestyle and behavior, and to be able to act afterwards.

Once the questionnaire has been completed, personalized advice is given to help Internet users take action for their health. Personal results can be sent by email or shared on social networks. The objective is to prioritize the risks to which the Internet user is exposed.
Thus, consuming alcohol in small doses every week or eating little fruit will not carry high risks, while regular exposure to the sun without protection will.
140,000 preventable cancers
According to the 2010 cancer barometer, nearly one in two people mistakenly thinks that “cancer is often hereditary” and “that nothing can be done to fight against it”. However, tobacco (40%) and alcohol (35%) are the leading causes of preventable cancer.
The heredity factor represents “only” 10% of cancers. Indeed, out of the 355,000 cases diagnosed each year in France, more than 140,000 cancers are linked to preventable risk factors, underlines INCa.
This self-test, also available on tablets and mobiles, refers to information (www.mangerbouger.fr) which invite Internet users to change their eating habits or their lifestyle to reduce the risk of cancer. In parallel with this test, two short films on risk factors will be shown on the INCa website and on social networks. On these, the hashtags #jefaisletest and #preventioncancers were launched.
