Bread can be stored in the freezer for one month
The Dutch are real bread eaters. Most people in our country eat bread at least once a day with a meal. Fresh bread from the bakery is of course the best, but not everyone has time to get it every day. But then what? Is freezing a good idea?
The answer is simple: you can freeze all kinds of bread. Handy and you have fresh bread every day. But there is a big but to it, because not all types of bread – such as baguettes or rolls – still taste good after freezing. If you put a baguette in the freezer and let it thaw, it will lose its crunchy, crunchy crust. If you bought too much baguette and still want to freeze some, warm it in the oven or toaster after thawing. Eat it immediately afterwards.
How long does bread keep after freezing?
Bread can be kept in the freezer for one month, after that month the taste will diminish. To keep your bread as tasty as possible, it is important to put the bread in the freezer as soon as possible after purchase – and preferably in a paper bread bag (with a paraffin layer on the inside) and not in a plastic bag. Do you make packages with a number of slices? For example, because you eat three slices every day, put them in special freezer bags. This way you can defrost a package every time.
What’s the best way to defrost bread?
Bread stays best if you take it out of the freezer a while before you eat it, so that it can thaw slowly. Bread can also be thawed in the microwave, but that does not benefit the taste. You can also defrost bread in the toaster, but the bread will be a lot drier.
Can you refreeze bread that has been thawed?
It is possible, but it is not recommended. It can’t hurt, but quality and taste are declining rapidly. It gets dry and old faster.
