At the last national congress of Sofcep (French Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons), Dr Philippe Kestemont, cosmetic surgeon, presented his results showing that aesthetic medicine techniques (injections, laser, LED, peeling …) can prevent effectively skin aging. In retrospect, this is what doctors and cosmetic surgeons, studies and photos confirm: a face treated at the first signs of aging will remain almost intact for ten to twenty years!
The skin will stay younger, longer
It was in the early 2000s that Dr Kestemont, who also practices aesthetic medicine, began to treat his patients with mini-injections. Its goal ? See if it was possible to modify the evolution of a face over time. The skin can in fact be compared to a sheet of paper which constantly bends under the action of facial movements. If you decrease your muscle tone by injecting minimal doses of botulinum toxin, it is less marked, which delays the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
The price of injections The injections carried out in prevention contain less product and are less expensive than the usual injections. |
What is the principle ?
The idea is to inject very little product (botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid), in certain very targeted places (dark circles, eyebrows, bitterness folds, cupid’s bow, forehead) and very spaced (once or twice per year). These zones are defined according to the specificities of the face, in order to respect their natural proportions. At the same time, one or two annual skin booster sessions (injection of hyaluronic acid into the middle dermis to hydrate and redensify), superficial peeling (exfoliation with fruit acids to regain radiance) and / or mesolift ( superficial injections of hyaluronic acid and vitamins to hydrate and plump).
At what age to start ?
It’s possible at 25 or 35. It all depends on the morphology of the face, genetic predispositions to skin aging, lifestyle and hygiene (significant weight loss, stress, tobacco, sun, etc.). For example, a 20-year-old young woman may look sad and tired, due to dark circles and droopy eyelids.
What can be expected from injections?
It is about prevention, not correction. There is no radical change, nor a breathtaking result. This new approach to aesthetic medicine makes it possible to gently accompany a face, without waiting for its aging. So that the result always remains natural and respectful without changing the morphology. This long-term prevention also has the advantage of delaying the moment of a possible facelift.

What are the risks and side effects?
Side effects and contraindications are the same on young or mature skin, whether the dose is reduced or not. After an injection of botulinum toxin or hyaluronic acid, small edema and bruising may occur at the injection sites and persist for 48 hours.
Are there any contraindications for young skin?
Whatever the age, injections are to be avoided in pregnant women and in case of autoimmune diseases. Botulinum toxin is also contraindicated in young women who wish to have a child or who are breastfeeding.
What cosmetic treatments should be used between procedures?
The best preventive program, in addition to sun protection and a healthy lifestyle, is to combine this treatment with daily applications of creams with fragmented hyaluronic acid (which passes the skin barrier). This makes it possible to prolong the effect of the injections.
