June 14: World Blood Donor Day
Established in 2004, at the initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO), World Blood Donor Day (WDDD) is an event celebrated around the world. June 14 was chosen because it was June 14 that was born Karl Landsteiner, Austrian physician and biologist, who discovered blood groups and classified them in the ABO system.
This year, the French Blood Establishment (EFS) organizes numerous exceptional blood drives over a week, in mainland France and in the overseas departments. At the beginning of June, the EFS launched an appeal to blood donors, to deal with the precarious situation of blood stocks before the summer. The Grand Est only has 9 days of stock, for example, instead of the usual 12 days
