Behind Philippe Meynard, former mayor of Barsac (Gironde) victim of a stroke in 2014, the association “AVC Tous concerned” will be in the Landes in this first week of August.
Since July 25, weird tricycles have been roaming the beaches of southwestern France. Île d’Oléron, Royan, Soulac, Hourtin… Behind Philippe Meynard, some volunteers from associations France AVC 40 and Stroke All concerned embarked on a 380 km journey to raise awareness about stroke.
The small troop will be in the Landes this week. Leaving Arcachon on Monday, she made a stop this Tuesday in Biscarosse, before joining Mimizan and Saint-Girons on Wednesday, and Hossegor on Friday. Finally, she will arrive in Biarritz on Saturday.
At each stage, around 300 people are sensitized on the beach, nearly 100 blood pressure measurements are taken, and bags containing information tools are distributed.

Philippe Meynard in the lead
The AVC Tous Concerned association relies on Philippe Meynard, the former mayor of Barsac, in Gironde, himself a victim of a stroke in 2014, to lead the fight. The Bordeaux Hospitals and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Health Agency have made him their ambassador against the disease.
Each year, 150,000 strokes are recorded in France, which represents one accident every 4 minutes. Stroke can strike at any age, and in the vast majority of cases, leave after-effects. The associations go out to meet holidaymakers to warn about the risk factors of stroke, and its warning signs, often easy to spot but poorly known to the general public.
Muscle weakness, paralysis of a limb or part of the face, numbness, loss of vision in one eye or part of the field of vision, difficulty speaking, or even just a severe and sudden headache must alert.
Certain factors increase the risk of declaring a stroke: smoking, high blood pressure, or diabetes, but above all, eating disorders and excess cholesterol.
