More and more studies prove that diet and health are intimately linked. And hyperactive children, who are 5% in France, are no exception to the rule. Eating a balanced diet would indeed be one of the most promising remedies for treating hyperactivity in children. This is what researchers who have just published a study in the American journal Pediatrics claim. For them, this is not the miracle recipe but if the drugs do not manage to fight against the lack of concentration or the impulsivity that these children suffer from, the best solution is undoubtedly to have a healthy diet. .
Are there specific foods to avoid?
For example, a diet based on rice, meat, vegetables, pears and water has recently been tested. At the end of 5 weeks, more than 60% of the children were less provocative, less in systematic opposition … character traits which are very accentuated in these children. But, in fact, the question is not whether to eliminate this or that food … For the authors of the last study, diets based on food supplements or very restrictive are difficult to stick … And therefore not necessarily very effective.
The watchword for hyperactive children – as for the rest of the population for that matter – is therefore a balanced diet. But, do we know why?
At the moment, there are assumptions. So we know that blood sugar is one of the brain’s main sources of energy. But a diet very high in sugar may cause our blood sugar to do the yoyo. In fact, if the blood sugar level rises and falls constantly, our brain tends to resent it. A sudden drop in sugar and our ability to concentrate plummets, we become more irritable …
So many things that make one think of the symptoms of hyperactivity?
Exactly, to avoid these mood swings, therefore, it would be better to eat foods rich in fiber and protein. This would regularly nourish the brain, prevent it from pumping and regulate the mood of hyperactive children.
