It is better to have a child right after a miscarriage, and not to wait several months, as gynecologists have always recommended.
This is a happy announcement for women who have suffered a miscarriage. Until now, gynecologists have advised them to wait several months before having a new child. They put forward a risk of another miscarriage. The World Health Organization itself advocated a six-month deadline.
Have a baby in stride
But this Wednesday, doctors issued new recommendations on the occasion of the National Congress of Gynecologists. They now advise not to wait. On the contrary: having a new baby immediately would have beneficial effects on pregnancy.
“Achieving a new pregnancy immediately afterwards allows two things: to reduce the risk of recurrence of the miscarriage and to reduce the risk of complications (premature deliveries, cesarean section)”, declared Cyrille Huchon, gynecologist at the Center intercommunal de Poissy (Hauts-de -Seine), at the microphone Europe 1.
To support their remarks, the congress gynecologists referred to several studies. In 2010, one of them, published in the BMJ (British Medical Journal) and covering more than 30,000 women, claimed that a miscarriage would tend to promote the success of the next pregnancy. Thus, women who become pregnant within six months of their miscarriage would have a better chance of having a pregnancy with lower complication rates.
Limit coffee
The practitioners present at the congress also recalled certain gestures which would make it possible to avoid miscarriages. So, of course, alcohol and tobacco should be avoided. Coffee would also be a risk multiplier. Gynecologists recommend drinking no more than one cup per day.
Miscarriages affect more than one in ten women. Most occur during the first trimester of pregnancy.
