The National Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM) has set up an online information platform which allows you to know the adverse effects of treatments, but also their out of stock.
- Data.ansm is a new open-access drug information platform.
- It allows you to consult information and figures on the history of reports of adverse drug reactions, medication errors and drug stock-outs since 2014.
- The site, which will be updated once a year, is based on information collected by 5 databases.
Aspirin, Doliprane, amoxicillin, corticosteroids… Many drugs can treat our minor and major ailments. However, for both the general public and professionals, it is not always easy to remember all the data on these treatments.
The ANSM has thus devised a free-access platform detailing adverse drug reactions, medication errors and stock-outs of pharmaceutical products recorded in France in recent years.
Data.ansm: a platform for knowing everything about medicines
The site, named data.ansm, allows you to consult information and figures on the history of drugs on sale in France. Internet users have access to reports of adverse effects, medication errors and stock shortages recorded since 2014.
“The data.ansm platform helps to improve the openness and transparency of health data by allowing data on pharmacovigilance reports, medication errors and stock-outs to be consulted on a single platform”specifies the ANSM.
For example, it is possible to find the number of reports of adverse effects received for a treatment, their distribution according to the sex and age of the patients or the nature of the disorders (skin, gastrointestinal, nervous disorders, etc.) met. The history of stock shortages makes it possible to know the periods when the drug was difficult, or even impossible, to obtain as well as the cause of the shortage.
Medicines: the data is updated every year
The ANSM tool was developed with Etalab’s “General Interest Entrepreneurs” program and in partnership with the Health Data Hub (HDH). It is based on the previous year’s data from five databases:
- the ANSM’s national pharmacovigilance database (BNPV database), containing reports of adverse effects suspected of being due to medicinal products;
- the Open Medic database of Health Insurance, distributing information on drug reimbursement (data from the National Health Data System);
- the ANSM’s Codex database which provides information on marketing authorizations for medicinal products;
- the ANSM database of medication errors;
- the ANSM’s Trustmed database, which collects declarations of stockouts and risk of stockouts of medicinal products.
The information disseminated by the platform data.ansm will be updated once a year, in April.
If it’s for everyone “from individuals to health professionals and manufacturers”, the agency behind the project recalls that it is not a site for consultation and medical information. Before taking a treatment, it is essential to seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist.
