The French are pessimistic about the future. 19% of those polled fear not having enough money for their health, according to the latest LH2 barometer published on Tuesday, November 15. A rate up five points compared to last year.
Another worrying figure, nearly half of French people (47%) say they are afraid of falling seriously ill and being driven to a state of dependence. Concerns are also emerging about the level of income, with 21% of French people worrying about their income. And 11% are afraid of isolation.
Health costs that weigh heavily
The crisis and the austerity measures announced by the government do not reassure the French concerned about taking charge of their health. Anxieties all the stronger as for 57% of respondents, health spending represents an increasingly important part of their daily budget.
Another reason for concern for the majority of French people questioned is the health expenses which are reimbursed less and less. Are they prepared to pay more? It depends. Aware that it is necessary to help fill the deficit in the health insurance accounts, they are ready to assume an increase in social contributions. On the other hand, there is no question for them to pay more money to mutuals. Respondents also take a dim view of the plan to increase mutual fees: a third of French people would also be ready to drop their complementary health, if it becomes too expensive.
The announcement of the establishment of a fourth day of deficiency not covered by Social Security for employees in the private sector should not allay the anxieties of the French.
