January 14, 2011 – The Canal Savoir will broadcast, starting Monday, January 17 at 7 p.m., a series of 14 programs that will demystify pain and mental illness1.
Entitled CursUS-santé, this series of popular training courses adapted for TV is in its 2e season. It is co-produced by the Sherbrooke Health Expertise Center and Télé-Québec.
The ABCs of Pain
The first part of the series includes 7 programs on pain, which reaches approximately 1.5 million Quebecers every day. The first shows explain where the pain comes from, and its different ways of manifesting itself. Health professionals then discuss techniques conducive to the physical and psychological management of pain, such as migraine, low back pain and fibromyalgia.
Understanding mental illness
The second installment, which also includes 7 programs, explores the mental illnesses that will affect nearly 20% of Canadians in their lifetime. The main mental health problems, such as eating and psychotic disorders, and an analysis of the future of mental health research are detailed and popularized by a team of psychiatrists.
General public training
The CursUS-santé popular training program was set up in 2007 by the Sherbrooke Health Expertise Center.
It offers lectures given on a voluntary basis by professors from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Sherbrooke, as well as by specialist physicians and professionals from the Sherbrooke region. The program, which is also deployed in other cities including Chicoutimi, Longueuil and Moncton, aims to make medical knowledge accessible.2 To the population.
