Inform patients. This is the mission given to the newly inaugurated end-of-life palliative care center. The creation of this center is part of the 2015-2018 National Plan for the development of palliative care and end-of-life support. Unveiled last December, this plan is one of these main projects to educate patients about their rights with the creation of this center.
Resulting from the merger of the National Palliative Care Resource Center and the National End of Life Observatory, hosted by the La Croix Saint Simon foundation, the institute will also be responsible for launching a major campaign within a year of national communication.
“Palliative care helps alleviate the suffering of people at the end of their life. But very few French people are informed about palliative care. Everyone must know their rights and be at the heart of the decisions that concern them,” explained Marisol Touraine, the Minister of Health in a communicated.
A plan of 190 million euros
Another measure provided for in the national plan: the development of home care with the creation, in particular in 2016, of 30 new mobile palliative care teams across the country.
Reducing inequalities in access to palliative care is also one of the projects being considered by the government. The goal is to ensure that each region has at least 1 palliative care bed per 100,000 inhabitants by 2018.
