A nurse accused of defrauding € 1 million from Social Security

A liberal nurse accused of having withdrawn several hundred thousand euros from Social Security was arrested last Tuesday by the departmental security of the Rhône in charge of this case. It should quickly be presented to a Lyon magistrate who will decide on the follow-up to be given to this case. He had created with his wife a nursing practice located in Isère. The latter was also arrested and then taken into police custody.

Overbilling and fictitious invoices

Among other things, the couple is accused of overcharging certain acts, invoicing fictitious acts and diverting the rules of collaboration and replacement over a period from July 2010 to December 2014. According to investigators, in just over four years, they would have embezzled nearly a million euros to the CPAM (Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie) of the Rhône.

It is a complaint from the same CPAM which would have alerted the competent authorities. Indeed, the activity of the nurse was more than surprising since at certain times, it would have been ten times higher than that of his colleagues of the same department. This organized fraud made it possible for the nurse to lead the way, since nearly € 15,000 were thus misappropriated every month. At present, the man still denies the facts with which he is accused.

Health professionals accustomed to fraud

In 2012, health insurance fraud amounted to 150 million euros, an increase of 25% compared to the previous year. A majority of these offenses would be attributed to health professionals, according to official figures. Medical transports are themselves also singled out in these frauds, since they would be responsible for the loss of 17.7 million euros each year.
