If you’ve always dreamed of being a superhero, you still have a little over two weeks to try to become one. Finally, by superhero, it is rather the title of “Soberheros”. To be crowned with this title, you must abstain from drink a drop of alcohol throughout the month of October.
If you take up the challenge you will be consecrated “Soberhero”. Certainly you will not have the luxury of enjoying superpowers like flying or transforming yourself, whatever: you will certainly manage to save lives. Because the British initiative “Go sober for October” is launched for a noble cause: it supports research against cancer since it is accompanied by a call for donations.
Over 67,000 Soberheroes so far
More broadly, the challenge campaigns for sobriety and the benefits of cutting out, or at least reducing alcohol. The Mac Millan Cancer Support Foundation launched this 31-day challenge to encourage Britons to curb their consumption of alcohol, the health effects of which are well known: fatigue, sleeping troubles, dull complexion. Drinking too much alcohol is associated with a risk of pathologies such as cancers, cardiovascular and digestive diseases, diseases of the nervous system as well as psychic disorders (depression, irritability, etc.).
The campaign is in full swing with the expected success, according to the figures relayed on the gosober.uk site: 1,726,789 pounds were collected (about 1,908,353 euros), rewarding 67,543 “Soberheroes”.
