A new treatment could turn the lives of people who want hide their graying hair or treat the skin in case of vitiligo, this disease characterized by depigmentation of the epidermis. Discovered by Dutch, German and British researchers, and announced by the scientific journal The Faseb Journal, the compound in question, a modified catalase enzyme, works by reversing the oxidative stress responsible for hair discoloration and depigmentation of the skin.
“To date, there is no doubt that the sudden loss of skin pigmentation and hair color can affect people on many levels,” says study author Karin Schallreuter, before add that “the improvement in the quality of life after total or partial re-pigmentation has been documented”. The research was carried out on 2,411 patients with vitiligo. By restoring their levels of anti-oxidant enzymes, scientists have successfully pigmented the skin and eyelashes of patients. At the moment, the product launch date has not yet been announced.
