We can no longer count the benefits of a hearty breakfast, constantly brought to light by scientific research. It helps prevent cardiovascular disease, fight against weight gain because it reduces the feeling of hunger throughout the day and has many benefits especially for people with diabetes. According to the findings of this new study published in the journal Public Health Nutrition, eating a balanced, hearty breakfast of good nutritional quality would also help to achieve good school results.
Researchers at Cardiff University in Wales studied the breakfasts of 5,000 children aged 9 to 11 and highlighted their eating habits with their school performance.
The researchers’ findings showed that schoolchildren who ate breakfast were twice as likely to be above average as those who skipped that meal or ate a poorly nutritional breakfast made from chips, candy, or processed foods. They thus confirm the benefits of this meal confirmed by previous scientific studies.
In January 2014, the specialized journal Public Health Nutrition published a study which unveiled that adolescents who eat a nutrient-poor breakfast are more likely to develop metabolic syndrome in adulthood and therefore increase their risk of heart attack,Stroke and diabetes.
A balanced breakfast
Ideally, the morning meal should represent 20% of our daily intake, or between 400 and 500 calories on average for an adult. To start the day, the PNNS (National Health Nutrition Program) recommends a full breakfast based on a cereal product, a dairy product, a fruit and a drink.
