Sclerosis and laser
Sclerosis is especially indicated to treat spider veins, these little blue streaks that can appear on our legs. It consists of puncturing a dilated vein to inject a product, which is in the form of liquid or foam. Irritated, the wall retracts and the vein disappears. This gesture, just a little unpleasant, does not require anesthesia. Several veins can be treated on the same day but several sessions are usually necessary. You can resume your work normally after the procedure. Only avoid taking the plane the following days. Note that this method can also be used to treat certain varicose veins – therefore deep venous dilations – invisible to the naked eye, but identified by echo-doppler.
The endovenous laser is one of the most promising non-surgical methods. This is to treat diseased veins without removing them. The doctor slips an optical fiber inside which delivers a laser beam. The varicose vein retracts and, little by little, the small varicose veins located upstream also disappear. This technique is indicated if you have varicose veins in the main vein in your leg – called the saphenous vein. It is also used to remove spider veins. The operation, which takes place under local anesthesia, lasts about an hour. The patient can go home during the day. Unlike sclerosis, the laser is not reimbursed by Social Security. Count between 500 and 1000 €.

Surgery
It is generally reserved for people who have numerous, troublesome varicose veins of large diameter. An operation may be decided to relieve your sore legs and for cosmetic reasons. You will also avoid complications: dermatitis, phlebitis, varicose ulcer … It is the angiologist, the specialist in arteries and veins, who will be able to tell you if surgery is recommended in your case or if you should rather be directed towards sclerotherapy, laser, etc. If an operation is decided (it is reimbursed by Social Security), he will refer you to a vascular surgeon. He will suggest a particular method to you depending on the size of your varicose veins, their location and… their habits. Hospitalization for 48 hours is sometimes necessary, but most often these operations are performed on an outpatient basis. That is to say that we go home in the evening.
– The stripping is the most classic. The intervention consists of removing the varicose vein. It is possible to walk the same day, but on condition that you do not force it. For those who have varicose veins on the main vein of the leg, the saphenous vein.
– Phlebectomy: it consists of removing the diseased vein bit by bit.
– The Chiva cure (conservative and hemodynamic cure for venous insufficiency on an outpatient basis): it consists in correcting the blood reflux from the deep network towards the surface by sections-ligatures of the perforating veins while being guided by the Doppler.
All these procedures do not exempt you, once you get home, from taking care of your legs: walk, wear clothes that do not tighten too much, put on compression stockings if necessary … You may be able to prevent or prevent less delay the onset of other varicose veins.
