After the exterior, Renault is unveiling the interior of the fitted Kangoo concept, christened Hippie Caviar Motel. Based on the electric Kangoo in the long L2 version, unveiled at the same time, it offers sleeping, desk and storage space for one person. A concept that foreshadows the future Kangoo SpaceNomad.
Last August, Renault unveiled the Hippie Caviar Motel concept, a Kangoo fitted out in line with the Trafic Hippie Caviar Hotel, which will be exhibited from September 20 to 25 at the IAA Transportation commercial vehicle show in Hanover, Germany. On this occasion, we discovered the stretched Kangoo L2 on which this leisure vehicle is based, as well as the body finish and certain exterior attributes of the concept. But the interior of the van remained to be revealed. This is today done.
The van of solitary campers
Behind the passenger seat of the Hippie Caviar Motel, an armchair with a view to the rear can be used as a workstation thanks to the folding table integrated into the side trim. This mini-bench can be unfolded to become a bed thanks to the length of the Kangoo L2 (4.91 m, against 4.49 m in L1). The width of this bed, however, makes it suitable for lovers of solo excursions, unless you sleep particularly tight. Behind the driver’s seat is a large piece of furniture that takes up almost all the space up to the stern. At its rear end is a small bench seat, upholstered in silver-grey quilted fabric like the front seats. An awning stretches out at the opening of the double rear door. The details of the vehicle’s equipment and functions are yet to be known.
An electric Kangoo to go green
The Renault Hippie Caviar Motel is based on the electric Kangoo E-Tech. It is therefore powered by a 120 hp engine, itself powered by a 45 kWh battery giving it 285 km of autonomy according to the manufacturer. Supporting a charging power of 80 kW, this accumulator can recover 170 km of autonomy in 30 minutes of charging in the best conditions.
This small converted van should not remain in concept for long, its “big brother” Trafic SpaceNomad derived from the Hippie Caviar Hotel now part of the Renault range. And like the latter, the Kangoo for campers should be offered in thermal as in electric. With him, Renault is once again showing its interest in the growing leisure vehicle market. This dynamic concerns the entire diamond group, Dacia having just presented its own solutions in this area, more accessible as required by the positioning of the brand, starting with a tent deploying from the back of the Jogger.
