The results of a new survey show that more than 60% of French people use food supplements, with the main objectives of preventing certain diseases and improving their health. It is interesting to note that 74% of French people believe that not all food supplements are equal, thus highlighting a certain distrust regarding the quality of these products.
Generational differences regarding food supplements
The survey reveals that opinions on food supplements vary depending on the generation. Indeed, those under 30 and over 60 are the most critical, with 84% and 79% respectively estimating disparities between the different products. This difference of opinion highlights the specific expectations and concerns of each age group when it comes to supplementation.
Limited knowledge about the composition of food supplements
A significant gap in knowledge of dietary supplements was also identified by the survey. Only 3% of French people surveyed demonstrated a good understanding of the essential elements determining the effectiveness of a food supplement, such as the quality of raw materials, adequate dosages and bioavailability. Additionally, few people are able to evaluate the quality of a brand of dietary supplements, highlighting a lack of information and awareness in this area.
The French believe that food supplements make you live longer
One of the highlights of the survey is the perceived link between dietary supplement consumption and longevity. In fact, 82% of French people believe that it is possible to live longer thanks to these supplements. This belief transcends generations, with those over 61 and those under 30 showing high percentages of confidence in the beneficial effect of food supplements on lifespan. This perception highlights the importance given to supplementation to promote good health and the hope of living longer.
