We know that sleeping well is essential for staying in good health. But in 2018, where is the sleep of the French? To answer this question, the Adova Foundation joined forces with the Ipsos institute to carry out the first Sleep Observatory, a vast study conducted among 2,000 adults in France in August 2018.
First info: the French are aware of the importance of their sleep. Thus, 63% of those questioned consider that sleeping well is as important as eating a balanced diet or not smoking; for 1 in 4 French people, it is even “the” priority n ° 1.
Better still: for 88% of respondents, sleep is “a moment of pleasure”, or even “a moment of freedom” for 78% of those surveyed. We approve!
62% of French people lack sleep
Unfortunately, 62% of French people say they “lack sleep” and, for 20% of those polled, the problem is even “significant”. In detail: 32% of French people say they get up too early at least 4 times a week, and 25% have trouble falling asleep at the same frequency. Night-time awakenings concern 85% of French people, who need an average of 39 minutes to go back to sleep …
In terms of sleep duration, the French sleep about 7 hours and 48 minutes during the week, 8 hours and 42 minutes during weekends and holidays.
Why do we sleep badly? There are many causes of “badly sleeping”: 48% of French people think they go to bed too late and 33% mention “the lack of calm activities” before going to sleep.
