Why should anti-nausea drugs be used with caution?
Like any medicine, they can cause unwanted effects, if used improperly. In particular two of them, widely prescribed: metoclopramide (Primperan®) which can cause, in rare cases, neurological disorders; and domperidone (Motilium®) which in high doses can cause potentially serious heart problems. This is why you should never use or reuse an antinausea drug without the advice of your doctor or pharmacist.
Can we heal on our own?
In case of intoxication, small gastro, it is possible. But no more than two days if the cause of the nausea is not obvious. A medical opinion is always preferable in the small child, the pregnant woman (especially in the 3rd trimester), the elderly, if one is under chemotherapy.
In case of vomiting, what should we do?
We avoid dehydration by drinking small sips of water lemony for example. Eat small snacks, the cold often passing better than the hot. Another “tip”: suck on peppermint or sour candy if a bitter or metallic taste persists. If the vomiting is profuse or if blood is vomited, it is necessary to consult.
