Let’s respect the seasons to choose our products
The seasonal foods are products in a natural way without their cultivation interfering with the natural cycle of production. They must therefore only be consumed during the period corresponding to this production.
Autumn fruits and vegetables, produced locally and consumed in season, accumulate obvious advantages on all the plans :
- They have more taste : fruits and vegetables that ripen in the sun develop flavors that those ripening during transport cannot have. The further they come, the earlier they are picked and the less flavor they will have.
- They cover our nutritional needs at the right time: nature gives us everything we need at the right time. For example, in winter, with the cold and the lack of sun, the body and immune system demand more nutrients: it is the season for citrus fruits full of vitamin C. But in summer, with the heat, the body spends less calories and requires more water: seasonal fruits are full of them: melon, peaches, red fruits, etc.
- They are generous in antioxidants : antioxidants are molecules that protect the cells of the body from the aggressions they suffer on a daily basis (pollution, smoking, UV rays, etc.), and therefore help prevent the appearance of certain diseases and slow down aging.
- They are less treated : out of season, a fruit comes from a greenhouse harvest or has been cultivated using pesticides to help it grow and compensate for the lack of sun and nutrients in the soil.
- They are cheaper : local seasonal products require less transport and are not taxed on imports. This is reflected in their price.
