People even had to spend the night in their car
In the Netherlands it is often not so intense, but it is still wise to put some bottles of water and a bag of nuts in the back of the car. Yesterday, hundreds (other sources say thousands) of drivers in the US were surprised by heavy snowfall, resulting in a huge traffic jam. Many people had to spend the night in their cars.
Interstate 95 (or simply I-95) runs on the east coast of America from top to bottom (or vice versa of course). It sails from the state of Maine to Florida. In Virginia, about halfway through, nearly a foot of snow suddenly fell yesterday. Due to the slippery road, a truck swerved, causing a chain reaction of accidents. According to ABC News some people were stuck in traffic jams for up to 16 hours. On Twitter, some people report that they were stuck in traffic even longer. No one would have been injured by accidents or from hypothermia and malnutrition.
Messages from the traffic jam
On Twitter, among others, people posted photos and videos from the traffic jam. The cars had to be overnight in sub-zero temperatures. ‘Just woke up. Still stuck in the same spot as last night at 9:00 PM. There is not much food and the water is running out,” the tweet read below. There were also cars without petrol in traffic jams. Fortunately, people came to each other’s aid. Truck drivers shared their water and food with people who needed it, reports CBS4 News.
