The Zoom online meeting tool on macOS had a shocking problem: the microphone remained active in the background. The provided privacy concerns.
Zoom is an app that many people came into contact with during the pandemic. It is an online meeting program that allows you to make video calls. Handy for meetings at work, but also for evenings with your friends, for example.
Zoom solves privacy problem
However, the program had been suffering from an annoying software bug for months. Since the release of the latest version of macOS, which appeared at the end of 2021, the microphone has remained active in the background. So Zoom recorded what you said, even when you didn’t have an active meeting.
The issue came to light when users complained about it on the company’s official forum. The macOS shows an indicator when a program or app uses a specific component, such as a microphone or camera. After consulting the settings, it turned out that Zoom did indeed keep the microphone active after meetings.
A solution to the problem has already appeared before. That happened in January. Unfortunately, Zoom didn’t solve the problem with that. Now there is another update available that should fix the problem to resolve† So if you use Zoom on the recent version of macOS, Monterey, you would do well to download that update as soon as possible.
