Food as medicine for the body
Hollywood stars like Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore, Cindy Crawford and Sarah Jessica Parker have already followed the Zone Diet. This waste method is based on the theory of Dr. Sears. He believes that food is not meant to satisfy your hunger. It’s a medicine for your body.
What does it mean?
The Zone Diet is known for its rules and discipline. Dr. Sears is the inventor of this waste method. According to him, food is not meant to satisfy your hunger or please yourself. He believes that everything you eat is medicine for your body. The Zone Diet falls under the so-called hormonal diets, just like Montignac’s diet. That means it regulates the sugar level in your blood and thus your hormone balance. dr. Sears himself calls his diet “a lifelong strategy for keeping your hormones in check.”
How does it work?
If you follow this diet, you are allowed to eat two groups of foods: products rich in lean proteins or natural carbohydrates. The first group, for example, includes white meat such as chicken. Natural carbohydrates come mainly from vegetables, fruit and fiber-rich foods. In addition, Dr. Sears recommends taking supplements of omega-3 fish oil daily. According to him, if you eat the amount of protein and carbohydrates in a certain ratio, you can delay your feeling of hunger for about four hours.
Actually, nothing is really forbidden with this diet. Only bread, potatoes and pasta (the carbohydrates) may only take up a quarter of the total of all carbohydrates used. You eat more fresh fruit and vegetables in combination with more protein from low-fat meat or protein products. Coffee, or at least drinks with caffeine, is not recommended. With the Zone diet it is also recommended to exercise every day. Especially aerobic and anaerobic sports are recommended. In aerobics, the movement is aimed at muscle groups. Anaerobic is aimed at relaxation, like running.
Pros and cons
The amount you can eat in the Zone Diet is not that bad. You should eat at least three meals and two snacks a day. The disadvantage is that you only see results after a few weeks. In the first weeks you will lose a lot of weight, but you will lose a lot of fluid, about 2.5 kilograms. After a while you will probably lose half a kilogram to a whole kilogram per week.
Suitable for whom?
The Zone Diet is not suitable for everyone. Opponents argue that it goes against recommended dietary patterns. For example, if you are pregnant, it is better to consult your doctor first.
