Approaches
A yoga class uses and integrates exercises that appeal to the meditative side. Yoga has a built-in structure, but it’s not tight. Yoga is a journey of self-experimentation. You’ll have to decide for yourself whether you want an instructor who will guide you through a whole series of exercises, or if you want something a little more relaxed. By holding your hip you can experience for yourself which position feels best.
Pilates has a pragmatic attitude. The lessons are structured. You strive to make every movement controlled, careful, controlled, fluid and precise.
Personality
Usually certain personality types are attracted to yoga or Pilates. Someone who is busy with his inner self is more likely to go to yoga. But if someone is more used to looking outward, they will be more comfortable with Pilates.
Yet the outward-looking types could benefit from yoga. This for the calming results. And if you look at Pilates, this workout could actually be good for the experimental types with the inner focus.
Yogalates
In the United States, a new type of training has already been invented: yogalates. It mixes, as its supporters say, the best of both forms. You can order the DVD ‘Yogalates’ by founder Louise Solomon via the internet.
