When her doctors gave her a year to live, her breast cancer disappeared during a clinical trial.
- After participating in a clinical trial with experimental drugs, a British woman is cured of her cancer.
- Breast cancer is the deadliest cancer in women.
- According to the WHO, nearly one in twelve women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.
She knew she was doomed… Today, she has the impression of “being reborn”, she tells the Manchester Evening News.

Indeed, thanks to a Phase 1 clinical trial conducted over two years at the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Facility (CRF) in The Christie Hospital in Manchester, one of the largest cancer treatment centers in Europe, Jasmin David managed to get rid of her severe triple negative breast cancer detected in 2017 that had spread to the lungs, rib cage and lymph nodes.
During the trial, she received an experimental drug combined with Atezolizumab, an immunotherapy drug given intravenously which she will continue to have every three weeks until December 2023.
No more trace
In June 2021, his scanners no longer show any trace of cancer.
“I didn’t know if it would work for me, but I thought to myself that at least I could do something to help others and use my body for the next generation”, she declares.
“At first I had a lot of horrible side effects including headaches and temperature spikes so I was hospitalized over Christmas and was very sick. Then luckily I started to respond well to the treatment.”
“We are really happy that Jasmin had such a good result,” comments Fiona Thistlethwaite, responsible for the clinical trial.
“At The Christie, we are continually testing new drugs and therapies to see if they can benefit more people.”
Lump above the nipple
Jasmin had been suspicious after finding a lump above the nipple. She then underwent grueling six months of chemotherapy and a mastectomy in April 2018, followed by 15 rounds of radiation therapy that rid her body of cancer.
But by October 2019, the cancer had returned and scans showed multiple lesions throughout her body.
Now cured, she shows no signs of illness and is enjoying life with her husband David and their adult children, Ryan and Riona.
