Diphtheria, tetanus and polio are the only vaccines required for infants. They must be injected three times before the baby is 18 months old. All other vaccines listed in the child’s immunization schedule (whooping cough, haemophilus influenza, pneumococcus …) are only “recommended” but not mandatory.
However, in recent years, laboratories have only made available to families “4 in 1” or even “6 in 1” versatile vaccines that are sold at a higher price. As for the “DTP” vaccine protecting against the 3 obligatory diseases, it is most often out of stock.
Four months for mandatory vaccines to be available
The rapporteur of the Council of State therefore recommends that parents of infants be guaranteed the possibility of opting only for compulsory vaccines. According to him, the Minister of Social Affairs and Health must “take measures” Where “refer the matter to the competent authorities with a view to adopting measures intended to guarantee the availability of the aforementioned vaccines, within four months of the notification of the decision of the Council of State“. The rapporteur justifies his remarks by the “current discrepancy between the vaccine obligation and the impossibility of meeting it”.
The decision of the judges of the Council of State should be rendered in a fortnight.
