Dry skin, rashes and skin irritations
Most people do shower before swimming in the pool, but did you know that it is also wise to take a shower after a refreshing dip in the pool to rinse yourself well? Three reasons!
chlorine
In the vast majority of swimming pools, the water is kept clean with chlorine. Just smell your skin if you’ve swum in a pool and if you’re unlucky, you’ve tasted it because you accidentally ingested a sip of bathing water. Chlorine is in the water to keep it clean and prevent the spread of bacteria and dirt. But unfortunately it is not so good for your skin. It dries out the skin and can also cause skin irritations. Taking a shower after swimming can prevent this.
Dry hair
Not only does your skin dry out from chlorinated water, your hair also benefits from a wash after a dip in the pool. Chlorine can also fade or even change your hair color. For example, blond hair can turn green. Take good care of your hair by rinsing it after swimming. Gently pat dry and use a nourishing conditioner.
Skin rash
You may also experience red rashes and other skin irritations after swimming in chlorinated water. Incidentally, it is not the chlorine itself that people react to, but a by-product thereof. The chlorine in the water reacts to bacteria and human proteins, creating so-called trichloramines. Some people are sensitive to that. By showering after swimming and drying yourself well, the chance is smaller. Always dry your ears well: this way you reduce the chance of ear infection† It can also help to grease your skin well after a swim.
