It is called the “internal shower” and is acclaimed everywhere on social networks for its laxative faculties. And if most of the time the “magic recipes” released by Tik Tok and Instagram are not at all good ideas, a gastroenterologist, doctor Bulsiewicz acclaims this one on Instagram. THE Eatingwell website resumes its analysis.
Concretely, it is a question of mixing water, with chia seeds and lemon juice. Nothing extraordinary, then. But it has certain advantages that the doctor details: chia is rich in fiber, but also in carbohydrates. It would contribute to good intestinal health, and to maintain the microbiome, according to the doctor. But also to fight against the development of heart disease.
A hydrating drink
In addition, the seeds can “absorb 12 times their weight in water, forming this gel that we know” details Dr Bulsiewicz, which promotes hydration of the body, essential to avoid constipation. On the other hand, the doctor contradicts the idea of a “detox” effect caused by this drink. It would only be beneficial for transit and hydration.
That said, beware: chia seeds are also known to have effect against hypertension and anticoagulant, thus adding to the effects of certain drugs. Before consuming this drink (in moderation to avoid the risk of diarrhea), do not hesitate to seek medical advice.
Also note that the recommended daily intake of chia seeds is 10 grams per day, or about one tablespoon.
