Women’s brains need more recovery time than men’s. In question, their propensity to be more “multitasking” than men.
Women with very stressful lives need more sleep than men. This has just been shown by a study conducted by researchers at Duke University in Durham in the United States. These scientists even found that women who lack sleep often suffer from depression and mood swings. Ailments that otherwise would not affect men with late sleep, such as souilgne Science World Report.
The reason for this imbalance? The researchers believe that it comes from the use of the brain: women would need more recovery time because they are more likely to do several things at the same time, to be “multitasking”.
Take 25- or 90-minute naps
Questioned by the newspaper The AustralianDr Michael Breus explains that women can avoid problems due to lack of sleep by taking naps. But be careful, these naps must last 25 or 90 minutes, otherwise waking up will seem even more difficult.
“One of the main functions of sleep is to allow the brain to recover and repair itself” explain to Daily Mail Prof. Jim Horpe, Director of the Sleep Research Center at Loughborough University. “During deep sleep, the cortex – the part of the brain responsible for thinking, memory, language – pauses to recover,” he explains, before adding: “The more you use your brain during the day, and the more you will need to recover and therefore sleep ”.
Previous studies have also shown that insufficient sleep increases the risk of heart disease, mental health problems and even heart attacks.
