Initially shunned by the French, teleconsultation is becoming more and more common, especially in psychiatry.
- Any doctor can use teleconsultation, regardless of: his specialty, his sector of practice (sector 1, sector 2) and his place of practice, in town or in a health establishment (city office, multi-professional health center , health center, Ehpad, hospital, clinic, etc.).
- It is feasible everywhere in metropolitan France and in the overseas departments and regions.
Today Wednesday, September 15, it has been three years since teleconsultation has been reimbursed by Social Security. On this occasion, the Qare teleconsultation platform looks back on the evolution of this practice.
First lesson; “the practice of teleconsultation has become commonplace in 3 years”, finds the company. On the scale of Qare, the volume of activity has multiplied by 100 in 3 years, going from 100,000 teleconsultations carried out at its beginnings to more than one million. Today, the number of monthly teleconsultations is 15 times higher than in 2019.
“The mental health specialty teleconsultation is the big winner”
Second notable development: “mental health specialty teleconsultation has been the big winner of the past 3 years”, see the platform. Psychiatrists are thus the doctors who have most adopted teleconsultation, which today represents 12% of their private practice. In Qare, for 3 years, teleconsultations in mental health have multiplied by almost 40 and represent 13% of global teleconsultations.
At last, “the uses of teleconsultation have become widespread in all age groups of the population”, notes Qare. While teleconsultations were mainly carried out by 26-50 year olds in 2019, the shares of over 50s and under 18s are those that have increased the most in 3 years.
The care pathway must be respected
In order to guarantee quality care, remember that the doctor must say “teleconsultant doctor” knows you, which implies that you have had at least one physical consultation with him (office, patient home or health establishment) during the last 12 months preceding the teleconsultation.
“For the same purpose, the teleconsultation is in line with the coordinated care pathway, which presupposes that you have been initially directed by your attending physician to the teleconsultant doctor (if this is not the teleconsultant doctor)” , says health insurance.
