According to a study conducted by a team of researchers at Newcastle University in Australia, heating water for tea in the microwave, rather than in a kettle, is better for your health. Explanations.
Better tea for your health
This is a study that may tickle purists who consider that for the temperature of tea to be perfect, water must be brought to a boil in a saucepan. According to an Australian study, it would indeed be preferable to heat the water for your tea directly in the microwave. This would make it possible in particular to activate the antioxidants present in tea, these molecules which make it possible, among other things, to prevent the risk of cancer.
Professor Quan Vuong, who led this work, says the benefits of tea would be maximized with this method of cooking. The research team found that the microwave enabled 80% of the caffeine and theanine. However, we know that theanine promotes relaxation and fights fatigue. The tea would also taste better after microwaving.
Activate antioxidants in green tea and black tea
Still according to this work, by activating the antioxidants present in particular in black and green teas (polyphenols), we could protect ourselves against diabetes, hypertension, bad cholesterol and cardiovascular diseases. This observation is true regardless of the tea that we consume: whether it is in leaves or in a bag..
But how do you do it? According to Professor Quan Vuong, it is advisable to put tea leaves or the sachet in a cup of cold water and place it in the microwave. 30 seconds at medium power will suffice. However, we recommend that you wait a minute before enjoying your hot drink to avoid burning yourself. You are not convinced by this demonstration? Now is the time to try!
