Popular messaging service WhatsApp is working on a new two-step verification tool for its web client and desktop app. But that is not everything.
WhatsApp wants to make the use of the web client and desktop application somewhat more secure in the future. The team behind the communication app comes namely with an additional verification tool. If the function actually arrives, you will no longer be able to log in without extra codes.
WhatsApp comes with verification tool
As a user, you will soon be able to add a personal code to your account. You need this code to log in. If you do that via the web or the desktop app, you enter that code, as well as the code that you receive via text message. This way you are better protected against sim-swapping attacks.
In addition, WhatsApp is working on another one update. This pertains to the people who want to transfer their chats from Android to iOS and vice versa. Until now, without unofficial detours, this has not been possible due to the way Android and iOS handle encryption.
So it is possible at a later time. WhatsApp needs your permission for this, while as a user you need the Switch to iOS app. To move from iOS to Android, you’ll need a Lightning to USB-C cable, as well as a phone that’s new or has recently been factory reset.
