The Department for the Animation of Research, Studies and Statistics conducted a survey on employees and their tobacco consumption. There are many environmental factors that influence us, but which ones influence employees?
16 million French people are smokers
Between the ages of 18 and 34, nearly one in two smokes. One in three young people aged 15 to 19 is a smoker, 46% of women aged 20 to 25 and 55% of men aged 26 to 34 are also. To understand the influence of the professional environment on smoking, the Ministry of Labor studied from 2006 to 2010 the correlation between the activity of employees who smoke and their consumption.
The factors vary depending on whether the individual is female or male. Stress is the key factor for the latter, since 19% of men who work in a stressful context smoke more. It has also been proven that people “ exposed during their career to physical or psychosocial risks consume tobacco more often than others “.
Smoking that varies according to gender
Carrying heavy loads and being constantly exposed to noise leads employees to smoke more. Conversely, in men, the fact of using harmful or toxic products in their work decreases their tobacco consumption. On the other hand, among women, the key factor is the feeling of insecurity in their job.
Since the 1960s, the proportion of regular smokers among men has fallen from 57% to 32%, with a tendency to remain stable between 2005 and 2010. However, among women, the proportion is increasing, from 10 to 26% with a particularly significant recovery between 2005 and 2010.
