It is often said that the eyes are the mirror of the soul. It seems that we can also read stress levelof someone or their sensitivity to pain. While the relationship between eyes and health has fascinated and intrigued researchers for many years, the University of Pittsburgh publishes an astonishing study on the subject. According to them, Caucasian women with light eyes (blue or green) tolerate pain better and suffer less stress than women with dark eyes.
The study of 58 pregnant women revealed surprising differences following eye color. Thus, the participants with light eyes experienced less pain during childbirth than the others. They would also have been less anxious, less depressed and less prone to negative thoughts than dark-eyed women, the study observes.
Without giving the exact origin of this difference, Dr. Inna Belfer of the University of Pittsburgh suggests that the reason could be found in the genes. Genetic markers associated with the color of the eyes, blue or brown for example, would be decisive for health. The study indicates, for example, that genes linked to melanin and responsible for the dark color predispose, for example, to greater sensitivity to pain. Since melanin is associated with the functioning of the brain, it would explain why the reaction time is improved in people with dark eyes than in blue eyes. The former would be more gifted at Frisbee or tennis than the latter.
Blue eyes = more diabetes?
A previous Italian study suggested that blue eyes increased the risk of type 1 diabetes but also of hearing problems.
Finally, in the clear-eyed versus brown-eyed match, there is no winner or loser.
