The polling institute Odoxa questioned the French to find out their good resolutions for the year 2020. Result: many are those who promise to get back to sport and lose weight.
As tradition dictates, each beginning of the year begins with making good resolutions. The year 2020 is no exception, as shown a survey conducted by Odoxa as part of the “Health Booklet” with 1,002 people representative of the French population: 80% of them declared that they wanted to make good resolutions for their health for the coming year.
Sleep more, 2020 goal for 30% of French people
But what are these good resolutions?
Unsurprisingly, “doing physical activity” is favored by 42% of respondents, followed by “dieting/losing weight”, which is the goal of 32% of respondents.
More surprisingly, 30% of respondents have a health goal for the coming year to sleep more. This good resolution even garners 34% of the votes from healthcare/hospital professionals.
As Franceinfo recalls, last year’s “Health Book” revealed the sleep disorders suffered by many caregivers: 23% of them were affected daily and 51% at least once a week.
Caregivers are far from being the only ones affected. Last March, a Weekly Epidemiological Bulletin (BEH) from Public Health France revealed that our sleep time fell below seven hours per night, including rest days: it was on average 6:42 a.m. on weekdays in 2017, compared to 7:09 in 2010.
On the other hand, the traditional resolutions of “drinking less alcohol” and “stop smoking” are no longer popular. Only 12% of French people and 9% of health professionals surveyed want to put an end to cigarettes for good. Only 7% of respondents and 2% of healthcare/hospital professionals want to limit their alcohol consumption.
Finally, there are still 22% of people who are resistant to good resolutions (20% among health professionals) who do not intend to make any plans for the comet in 2020 as far as their health is concerned.
