Crocs, the famous colored rubber clogs that appeared in 2002, quickly became the dress code of the summer. Comfortable, light, funny and easy to wash, they have also been adopted by nurses and orderlies in hospitals. However, American podiatrists have just launched an alert in the Huffington post : Crocs are not made to be worn all day and represent a danger to the health of the foot.
“These shoes do not support the heel enough. However, when the heel is unstable, it can cause deformity of the toes as well as tendonitis.” says Dr. Alex Kor, president of the American Academy of Podiatry, who regularly sees patients with foot problems in his office and who admit to wearing fangs every day. “The only people who can benefit from wearing it every day are those who suffer from excessive edema of the legs or ankles. But under no circumstances should you wear fangs for 8 to 10 hours a day.” insists the doctor. “Even children tend to trip more easily when wearing these clogs.“.
This is not the first time that fangs have been talked about. A few years ago, hospitals in Sweden, Austria and the United Kingdom decided toforbid their nurses to wear these shoes because they are not strong enough to protect the foot from sharp instruments such as syringes or needles.
