The prefects of Gironde and Bouches-du-Rhône announced new local restrictions on Monday to fight against the coronavirus.
- In Gironde: limitation of gatherings, prohibited parties and deployment of more gendarmes and CRS to enforce these measures.
- In the Bouches-du-Rhône, 27 municipalities have an incidence rate that exceeds 100 cases per 100,000 people and wearing a mask is compulsory in all public places.
- Bars, restaurants and cafes remain closed from 6:30 a.m. to midnight in the Bouches-du-Rhône.
Last Friday September 11, Jean Castex unveiled a series of measures taken by the defense council to combat the spread of the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. In addition to several national measures, he notably targeted Marseille and Bordeaux as areas particularly affected by the circulation of the virus. To deal with it, he called on the prefects of these different regions to propose a series of local measures to effectively combat the spread of Covid-19.
Increased checks on compliance with barrier gestures
The prefect of Gironde, Fabienne Buccio, is the first to have spoken to reveal the measures taken in her department. Gathering capacities have been reduced: the maximum number of people who can attend a public event has been lowered to 1,000 (compared to 5,000 nationally) and gatherings in parks or on quays have been reduced to 10 people. Dance parties, whether in bars or during weddings, are now prohibited, as are student parties. Heritage days have been canceled and school outings suspended. New testing centers will open.

To ensure compliance with these measures, mobile gendarmes and a CRS unit are deployed. Fabienne Buccio promises a “increased verbalization for not wearing a mask“and expects the authorities to show up”very firm against risky behavior.” In addition, the prefecture may decide, from the day before for the next day, the closure of establishments which do not respect these rules, such as bars or restaurants. “We will control and punish those who do not play the game“, announced the prefect. Within 15 days, an initial assessment of the effect of these measures will be carried out.

27 municipalities singled out in the Bouches-du-Rhône
In the Bouches-du-Rhône, a difference is made between the municipalities. In the department, Christophe Mirmand, the prefect, pointed to 27 municipalities because of their incidence rate which exceeds 100 per 100,000. For them, wearing a compulsory mask is extended to all public places, with the exception of large natural spaces such as the Calanques. For other cities, wearing a mask is only compulsory in the busiest public places (markets, schools, waiting times in public transport). As part of the population protection measures, visits to nursing homes are limited to one per day by a maximum of two people.
Regarding daily life, the objective of the new measures is to reconcile its pursuit with the aim of combating the resumption of the epidemic. Bars, restaurants and cafes will continue to be closed”from 12:30 a.m. to 6 a.m.”, indicated the prefect. Dancing evenings, the broadcasting of music on the public highway likely to generate a gathering, student parties or even school outings are all prohibited. As in Bordeaux, the major events planned for the next few days (European Heritage Day, Neighbors Day, Marseille International Fair) are canceled. Large gatherings can now only accommodate 1,000 people.
