While it is just about to land on the other side of the Atlantic, the Golf 8 GTI has already been modified by an American Volkswagen enthusiast, with the support of the brand. An association that gave birth to a concept, fitted with BBS rims like the personalized Golf 2 from which it was inspired.
In the United States, where compact hatchbacks are not popular, the Golf is nowhere near as popular as in Europe. Its eighth generation is not even present on the commercial site yet, and it will only be offered there in sports versions. But Jamie Orr, a Volkswagen enthusiast based in Philadelphia and quite influential across the Atlantic, has already been able to get his hands on a copy. With the help of the German brand, he even took the opportunity to make some changes. To speak of a “personal touch” would be a bit excessive, however. This Golf GTI BBS Concept is indeed openly inspired by a second generation model, which had been modified by a certain Brock Bickford and his daughter. When this project started, she was only 7 years old! Without being as successful as in Europe, the Golf can at least count on a community of fans across the Atlantic.
TO HAVE. Volkswagen Golf. Rare and unusual versions of the 7 generations
Featured golden BBS rims
Like its grandmother, this compact thus fits BBS rims with a very recognizable look. But their diameter now reaches 19 inches, and here they are painted in gold. The car was also lowered thanks to the installation of H & R coilovers, reworked to add more camber to the front. A Borla exhaust, which is slightly louder than the original one, is also present, while the headlamps in the front bumper take on a very retro yellow tint. As for the decoration, it remains very close to that of Brock Bickford’s Golf 2. On the other hand, Jamie Orr wanted to touch neither the body, nor the cabin, nor the 2.0 turbo engine of 241 hp (by American standards), about which he is full of praise. It was perhaps simply too early to boost the mechanics of a model that is just starting its career across the Atlantic, alongside the new Golf 8 R.
