Vaping has established itself as a substitute for traditional tobacco for 7 years already. According to a study by Public Health France, 700,000 French people have limited or even stopped their tobacco consumption.
Smoking cessation thanks to the e-cigarette
Since 2016, tobacco consumption has fallen sharply due to the rise in tobacco prices and the introduction of the plain package. Many smokers have switched to electronic cigarettes to quit smoking. According to Public Health France, this method of weaning would be rather effective. In this study, eight in ten vapers say that this change allowed them to reduce their tobacco consumption. The study reports ten cigarettes against a little less than twenty before the electronic cigarette. Almost 68% of vapers say they did not need additional help quitting such as patches.
The average vaper is male, in 6 out of 10 cases, and is on average 41 years old. He holds a higher diploma. The vapoteur generally uses e-liquids containing nicotine. In addition, it should be noted that the vapoteur uses the e-cigarette for 20 months on average, against 4 months three years earlier.
The risks of vaping
Since Tuesday, June 24, San Francisco became the first U.S. city to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes on its territory. As vaping has become fashionable, the city wants to fight against the rise in vaping among young people, which would have consequences on health.
A preliminary American study has shown that the use of electronic cigarettes carries certain risks. The study reveals in particular that the rate of depression and anxiety is 55% higher among vapers. The increase is 34% for heart attacks. However, it should be noted that these risks are even greater in a tobacco smoker.
